Horrible news this morning…

A knife-wielding former employee has killed at least 19 people and injured 25 others in an attack on a care centre for the mentally disabled near Tokyo, Japan.

Nine men and 10 women aged from 18-70 were killed in the attack in what is one of the worst mass killings in post-war Japan.

The attacker, Satoshi Uematsu, was reportedly aggrieved at having been fired from the facility in Sagamihara some months earlier, entered the care centre in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

He went on a rampage killing 19 people and wounding a further 26, with 12 of these said to be in a serious condition.

According to the state broadcaster in Japan, NHK, police received a call from a worker at the centre reporting the attack.

Uematsu handed himself into Sagamihara police station a short time after the attack, carrying with him number of bloodstained knives.

The motivation behind the attack remains unclear but Police have ruled out any terror link between the attack and ISIS.

Local media reported that he sent a letter to the lower house of the Japanese parliament in February where he threatened to kill 470 disabled people.

The letter was brought to the attention of police and Uematsu was hospitalised but released 12 days later after it was determined that he would not hurt anyone.
