A 28-year old man from Ireland has drowned in the Netherlands.
The man was swimming at Egmond aan Zee in the province of North Holland in the early hours of yesterday morning when he got into difficulty, according to The Mirror.
Local authorities confirmed that the alarm was raised at around 3.18am local time.
The Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution said the local Coast Guard helicopter, the police, ambulance service and the mobile medical team were all alerted.
"The rescue boat Adriaan Hendrik (Egmond) had just been launched when the victim was found on the shoreline, the crew of the ERB's began resuscitation.
"The Coastal Support Vehicle (KHV) [transported] Ambulance staff to the victim."
The police are treating the man's death as an accident, they said.
