The company will close more than 80 stores throughout the country.

Dixons Carphone has confirmed its decision to close all of its Irish stores, with 486 redundancies set to occur as a result of the closures.

Carphone Warehouse said its 69 standalone outlets and 12 outlets within a store will all close; however, the move will not impact Currys PC World, which is also owned by the Dixons Carphone group.

In a statement on Wednesday, the company said the closures are part of a “broader transformation” and were a “difficult but necessary decision”.

In 2020, the group also announced the decision to close all standalone Carphone Warehouse stores in the United Kingdom.

Dixon Carphone said that while it had anticipated a change in shopping behaviour, it had been “accelerated” by the impact of the pandemic.

“Carphone Warehouse Ireland colleagues have worked hard to make Carphone Warehouse Ireland a success and have been the driving force behind its well-earned reputation for excellent customer service and support. This difficult decision is no reflection on their commitment, dedication, and professionalism,” a statement from the company read.

“Footfall in our Carphone Warehouse stores is down significantly, and we don’t expect many customers to sign new contracts with us during this time; our stores will therefore close immediately.”

They added that service will continue as normal and will be answering any customer queries in relation to the changes via email at [email protected].
