Eight PSNI officers have tested positive for Covid-19.

60 police officers of the Police Service Northern Ireland are currently self-isolating after eight of their colleagues tested positive for Covid-19.

The PSNI announced on Saturday that eight of their police officers had tested positive for Covid-19.

The outbreak meant that 51 officers had to self-isolate and undergo testing, but that number increased to 60 on Sunday.

No further officers have tested positive for Covid-19 so far.

“In line the with public health guidance, we are taking all appropriate steps to address and manage the issue,” Assistant Chief Constable Alan Todd said.

“While we hope to return frontline officers to their duties in the coming days, our officers’ health and welfare is of paramount importance and we will ensure they return to duty when it is safe to do so.”

Antrim and Newtownabbey stations remain closed to the public until further notice with the PSNI stating both stations are undergoing a deep clean.

“Once again, I would like to reassure the public we have appropriate plans in place across the District to provide a service to the community and keep people safe,” Todd added.
