It was a boy, if anyone was wondering.

80 pounds of explosives detonated at a gender reveal party in the United States caused some people in surrounding towns to believe they were experiencing an earthquake, according to reports.

The incident occurred in Kingston, New Hampshire, with NBC 10 Boston reporting that the explosion took place at a quarry at 7pm on Tuesday evening.

Police say the explosive used was Tannerite, which is legal in the US and is used for firearms practice.

While there was thankfully no injuries, NBC 10 Boston report that the blast shook houses in the surrounding neighbourhoods and was even captured on a doorbell camera all the way in the next town over.

One Kingston resident told the station that the explosion caused pictures to fall off the walls in her house.

According to reports, the person who bought and detonated the Tannerite has turned himself in to the police.

The police have said they are investigating reports of property damage in the area caused by the blast.
