9-year-old boy killed by lightning strike while playing football

He was rushed to hospital but did not survive the lightning strike.

In some tragic news, it was reported late on Tuesday that a nine-year-old boy has died after being struck by lightning while playing football in a field in Blackpool in England. The young boy was training with Spirit of Youth Junior Football Club at the time of the incident. It is thought he was undergoing a private coaching session when the incident occurred. While he was quickly rushed to hospital, Lancashire Police confirmed that, unfortunately, he did not survive. Det. Supt. Nick Connaughton said: "This is a truly devastating incident and our thoughts are wholeheartedly with the family and friends of the young boy who has passed away, at this very sad and distressing time."
