Fair play to all involved…

JOE was fully behind the fantastic initiative organised by 2fm, in conjunction with Omniplex Cinemas, as 26 cinemas across Ireland simultaneously screened Robin Williams’ 1997 brilliant Oscar-winning movie Good Will Hunting.

We’re sure that the €23,000 will be a big boost to Pieta House and PIPS as they continue their fantastic work.

Dan Healy, Head of RTÉ 2fm said, “We’ve been overwhelmed by the public’s incredible response to the screenings of Good Will Hunting. To raise such a huge amount of money for these charities is testament to how many people were touched by Robin Williams’ work, but it also reflects the number of people that have been affected by the issues that these charities deal with on a day-to-day basis. It is great to see so much goodwill from people across the country.”

We’re not sure if that last pun from Dan Healy is intentional but JOE fully agrees with his sentiments.

Mark Anderson, Director of Omniplex Cinemas says, “We’d like to thank everyone who donated and came out tonight to watch this incredible movie. It was a fine tribute to a great man and an excellent way to show your appreciation of the fantastic work undertaken by Pieta House and the PIPS charities.”

The news of Williams’ passing still hasn’t sunk in with us here but it’s great to see that this money raised will be going towards a brilliant cause that will help people around the country.

Joan Freeman, founder and CEO of Pieta House says “ These much-needed funds will now be used to assist in the running of our centres across the country and support the incredible work undertaken by our community representatives working with people affected by suicide.”

Here is an image of the actual cheque that Pieta House will receive from the screenings, not accounting for some extra charitable donations that brought the overall amount up.
