A farmer in Mayo has been banned from driving for 12 months after causing a massive tailback

Seems a bit harsh

Joe Harrington

Total gridlock.

Driving on country roads can take a bit of getting used of because you have to navigate past veh-icles you wouldn’t normally encounter in cities.

If you get stuck behind a lorry, truck or tractor on the wrong road it can be a nightmare because of the lack of overtaking opportunities.

A farmer in Mayo has been punished for holding up traffic after he someone managed to cause a seven kilometre tailback involving 80-100 cars.

The guard who witnessed the incident said that the farmer was doing 20km/hr on the Westport Road. You’d be raging if you were stuck behind him.

He spoke to the driver and the excuse the farmer gave was that “he thought he had pulled in earlier to let traffic go by.”

The man has been fined €300 and banned from driving for a year. Harsh? Maybe a bit.
