It’s difficult to imagine festivals like this exist.
An American man is being hailed a hero after rescuing 1000 dogs from China’s controversial dog meat festival.
The 10 day festival, which began on Tuesday, sees an estimated 10,000 dogs slaughtered every year.
This is a tradition in China because they believe that eating dog meat helps the body cope with the heat.
American animal rights activist Marc Ching along with his friend Valarie Ianniello, saved dogs from 6 slaughter houses at the festival.

Ching posted a live facebook video of the rescue mission on The Animal Hope & Wellness Foundation’s facebook page.
He posted a message about compassion along with the video.
“These dogs, they are brothers. They are sisters. They are fathers and mothers. They are children. They deserve a chance.” He said.
This is Ching’s seventh rescue mission in China, according to Mashable.
