A New Hope: Darth Vader is running for President in Ukraine

Would Chew-bacc-a him to be Do-netsk President?

Would Chew-bacc-a him to be Do-netsk President?

Would you vote for Darth Vader? Ukranians have that option in the presidential election this year.

We’ve seen, thanks to the hard-hitting documentaries of George Lucas, just how ruthless a leader that Darth Vader can be, but that (spoiler alert) underneath he still has a good heart and can turn away from the dark side.

Voters in Ukraine will be hoping that he really has turned away from all that evil Empire stuff when they take to the polling booths in the presidential elections in May of this year (unfortunately not May the fourth, though), after months of violent protests and trouble in the region removed Viktor Yanukovych from office.

One of the most notable opposition figures, Vitaly Klitshcko pulled out of the race over the weekend, but Darth Vader, representing the Ukraine Internet Party (a very real party) is there to fill the void, and choke his opposition into submission using the Force to (Darth) Maul his opponents into submission. Or democracy, whichever one works. Either way, his (Death) star is on the rise, and we’re expecting him to storm(trooper) up the polls.

Vader’s party statment has a simple message: he is the only one that “can make an empire out of a republic, to restore former glory, to return lost territories and pride for this country”. Vader is no stranger to politics however, as he ran for a parliamentary seat in 2012 also, claiming a whopping 3% of the write-in votes according to Mashable.

However, this time around it looks like they’ve managed to raise the $225,000 (€163,000, give or take) fee to register Vader as an official candidate for the elections, so there will be more than a few voters voting for him to bring a New Hope to the country before too long.

And you thought Ming and Mick Wallace were dressed funny in the Dail…
