A little under $30,000 has been raised in just seven hours.

A gofundme page set up in order to raise funds to bring home the body of a Mayo man who died tragically in Australia has reached almost double the required amount in just seven hours.

Kevin Moran, a native of Mulranny in Mayo, died tragically in a road traffic accident in New South Wales on Friday.

A talented sportsman, Kevin played under-age rugby for Connacht and soccer for Achill Rovers and his loss was mourned both at home in Mayo and in Brisbane, where he had been living and where his fiancée Anne-Marie, his sister Emily and his Aunt Rose all currently reside.

A gofundme page had aimed to raise $15,000 to help bring Kevin home but thanks to extraordinary generosity, the fund has reached $26,827 at the time of writing, a sum donated by 219 people in just seven hours.

The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust are currently assisting with the arrangements to get Kevin home.
