A victim has been identified following the discovery of the body of a man in Cork

A decapitated body was found outside a derelict house in Cork on Saturday.

Gardaí investigating the discovery of a body of a man outside of a house in Cork have identified him as Francis Dunne, a 64-year-old man.

A post-mortem examination has been completed by Locum State Pathologist, Dr. Heidi Okkers, and a preliminary report furnished to investigating Gardaí.

Details are not being provided to the public for operational reasons.

Gardaí have now launched a murder enquiry and continue to appeal to anyone who can assist the investigation to come forward.

Gardaí are appealing to both motorists and pedestrians who may have been in the Boreenmanna Road area since Christmas day to come forward.

They are particularly appealing to motorists to make any camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area available to Gardaí.

No arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.
