
Achill Island beach which reappeared after 30 years disappears again after storms
Here today, gone...
A beach on Achill Island in Mayo has disappeared following recent heavy storms in the area.
Dooagh Beach returned to the shore of Achill Island off the coast of Mayo in 2017, having disappeared during the winter of 1984/1985.
Its return made international headlines and gave a significant boost to tourism in the area resulting in the creation of 79 full and part time jobs.
However, recent heavy storms this winter has caused heavy waves to hit the shore, eroding the sand and replacing it with large boulders instead.
