Glorious.

Namibian artist Max Siedentopf has set up a sound installation in the coastal Namib Desert to play one song, and one song only… ‘Africa’ by Toto.

He has chosen an undisclosed spot in the desert to set up solar-powered speakers and a MP3 player with the single track on it.

The whole art installation consists of seven white plinths sitting in the desert with six speakers and one MP3 player.

“[I] wanted to pay the song the ultimate homage and physically exhibit ‘Africa’ in Africa,” the 27-year-old artist told the BBC.

“Some [Namibians] love it and some say it’s probably the worst sound installation ever. I think that’s a great compliment.”

When asked how long the song will play for, Siedentopf said that he hopes the song plays for 55 million years, but admits the harsh landscape will eventually take its toll on the set up.

Nevertheless, we think this is the best thing of 2019 so far.
