AIB customers will be delighted with their latest announcement

Contactless payment is so handy.

AIB have stated that they’ve no “immediate plans” of introducing a charge on their contactless payments.

It had been reported in recent weeks that AIB would be introducing a charge of €0.20c for their contactless payments on February 24, 2017, but the bank told Newstalk that this is not the case.

“We don’t currently charge a transaction fee for contactless as it’s waived,” a company spokesperson told Newstalk. “We have no immediate plans to charge.”

AIB customers have been using contactless payments for over five million transactions a month and this number continues to grow.

The service can be used on purchases of €30 or less by touching your contactless card or mobile device (using Android Pay) to the terminal without the need to enter their PIN.

The idea of the service is to make it as quick, if not quicker, than using cash and is used by most banks in Ireland.
