Amazing TV reporter in Ukraine goes viral after expertly jumping between SIX different languages

Stephen Porzio

It really needs to be seen to be believed.

Many journalists have gone viral over the past few years for many different reasons.

Think of how Kerry native Donie O’Sullivan made headlines in Ireland when he reported live from the US Capitol riots in January 2021.

Or that time the BBC sent a reporter to cover the UK’s petrol shortage with the perfect name of Phil McCann.

More recently there was the Dutch reporter who was dragged away by a Chinese security official while doing live TV coverage of the Winter Olympic Games opening ceremony in Beijing.

Now added to this list is Philip Crowther, the International Affiliate Reporter for the Associated Press and a noted polyglot (a person who speaks many languages).

The latter fact is particularly relevant in this case as a video posted to Twitter of Crowther providing not two, not three, but SIX-language coverage of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine situation from Kyiv is attracting tens of thousands of likes and retweets.

Viewers are being dazzled by the journalist’s ability to effortlessly slip between English, Luxembourgish, Spanish, Portuguese, French and German.

While impressive in itself, it’s doubly so given the complexity of the news being reported on.

For all those who tried to pick up another language during Covid lockdowns, Crowther can be your new inspiration. Time to fire up that Duolingo app again…
