Homenews

This is what online shoppers need to know.

Amazon has just launched a new website specifically for customers in Ireland called Amazon.ie.

For the benefit of Irish shoppers, we've compiled a list of the main differences between the Irish Amazon site and its UK equivalent.

The basics

As can be expected, Amazon.ie's prices are listed in euros as opposed to pounds, meaning that Irish shoppers should be able to "browse products with clear, local pricing and without additional customs charges".

As well as this, the retail giant says the new Irish website will see customers enjoying "one-day delivery on millions of products".

That said, you will notice when checking out that certain items on Amazon.ie do still have an added postage and packing fee.

It's also worth noting that the new Irish site currently appears to have a smaller range of products on offer than Amazon.co.uk.

'Brands of Ireland'

One of the main differences between Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.ie is that the latter includes a dedicated 'Brands of Ireland' section, highlighting Irish businesses of various sizes.

Set up with Enterprise Ireland to help both customers find their favourite Irish brands and local businesses achieve greater scale and success, examples of homegrown businesses being spotlighted here include Barry’s Tea, Bewley’s, Drink Botanicals Ireland, Earth Champ, Ella & Jo, McEntee's Fine Teas, Portwest and Swifter.

“The launch of Amazon.ie presents a significant opportunity for our business and others in Ireland,” said Helena Dingley from Ella & Jo in a statement.

“It will help us reach new customers, strengthen our brand, and support our retail partners. Amazon’s infrastructure and expertise will help expand our presence in the domestic market, while also accelerating our international growth.”

James Madden, co-founder of independent Irish fitness brand Swifter, added: “The launch of Amazon.ie is great news for Irish businesses and consumers.

“For Swifter, it means we are able to reach more local customers and grow in our home market, which is exciting to be part of.”

It also appears that products on offer through this section of the site do not include the aforementioned added postage and packing fee.
