Some of the northern states are predicted to hit record low temperatures.

While parts of the USA have experienced some extreme weather in the last few weeks, locals in specific parts of the country have been warned to expect a life-threatening polar vortex to arrive in the next few days.

Already there have been reported lows including -17 in Minnesota, and -4 in Chicago, but the U.S. National Weather Service have warned that much of the Upper Midwest will be blanketed in wind chill, with temperatures set to hit “25 below to as low as 40 below zero”.

Ryan Maue, a weatherman in Atlanta, posted the following video of what North America can expect in the new few days:

Meanwhile, AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok has stated the following:

“Through late next week, it will be a very cold stretch and high energy draw from the Plains to the East Coast. The end of January will bring the coldest air of the season for the Midwest and rival the Arctic blast from earlier this week as the coldest in the Northeast.”

“Temperatures can be held 20 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit below normal across most of the Midwest around the middle of next week.”

Chicago, North Dakota, Minnesota, New York, Philadelphia, and more major cities are told to anticipate the huge temperature drop.

AccuWeather have also reminded those located in the areas that are set to be the worst affected that these low temperatures have potential fatal risks:

“Residents will once again have to take the proper precautions and cover all exposed skin to avoid frostbite and hypothermia. The homeless should be encouraged to stay in shelters.”
