Did you have snow, or wind, or both?

You probably awoke this morning to the sound of the wind howling at your roof and possibly rain pounding down outside.

Storm Fionn hit Ireland last night and brought with it windy and icy conditions which have left many roads in a treacherous condition this morning.

Gardaí have warned road users to be wary on the roads as snowy and icy patches may remain in some areas.

Met Éireann have also issued a status yellow wind warning for Munster, Leinster and Galway valid from 6pm on Wednesday until 2am on Thursday.

Southwest to west winds will reach mean speeds between 50 and 65km/h with gusts between 90 and 110 km/h and there will also be high seas along the Atlantic coasts with the risk of flooding.

However, Met Éireann lifted their snow and ice warning at 7am on Wednesday, the warning had been due to run until 9am.

Met Éireann have said there will be sunny spells and scattered showers on Wednesday morning, some may be of sleet in the north and east or snow on higher ground.

In the afternoon, heavy and persistent rain will push into Atlantic coastal counties and the wind will increase to gale force along southwest coasts.

The rain will spread further inland during the evening and with the potential of it turning to sleet or snow over Ulster and north Leinster.

AA Roadwatch have advised motorists to slow down and take care on the road as stopping distances are greatly increased during snow and icy weather.
