The apartment of Donald Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani has been searched by Federal Investigators on Wednesday.

Rudy Giuliani’s attorney, Robert Costello, told the Wall Street Journal that federal investigators arrived at Giuliani’s Upper East Side apartment around 6am on Wednesday and seized his electronic devices.

According to the publication, Costello said that the search warrant described the investigation as an investigation into a possible violation of foreign lobbying rules.

He added that the warrant was issued to search for communications from Giuliani in regards to an alleged effort to push for investigations of the current United States president in Ukraine.

Costello told the publication the search was an example of “legal thuggery”, adding that he had previously offered to answer questions from investigators if they revealed what areas they were looking at in advance, alledging that they had declined his offer.

The investigators are said to be looking at claims of whether Giuliani illegally lobbied Trump’s administration on behalf of Ukraine government officials who were helping the former NYC mayor to push for investigations into Joe Biden.

Giuliani reacted to the investigation last winter via Twitter, saying that the federal investigators were acting as “secret police” to help Biden.

“They want to seize my emails. No reason. No wrongdoing. Attorney-Client privilege?” he tweeted on 22 December 2020.
