Camden Street is about to get more bar and food options…

An Bord Pleanála has given the green light for a “superpub” in the Camden Street area in Dublin city centre.

According to Dublin Live, the appeals board has granted planning permission for a €4 million development at Camden Hall to pub giant JD Wetherspoon plc.

The development will also include a 98 bedroom hotel. This comes despite concerns raised by locals that such a development with further alcoholise Camden Street.

Wetherpoons currently operate five pubs in Ireland, four of these being in Dublin and the final one in Cork.

The development will create up to 200 jobs with a spokesperson for Wetherspoon stating that it’s “great news”.

Work is expected to begin on the development “sooner rather than later” according to the spokesperson.

Plans were originally submitted, well-over a year ago, to open a 98 bar and hotel room complex on the site of the old Camden Hall Hostel, but hit a snag due to the large number of pubs and cafés/restaurants with a license to sell alcohol already in the area.
