Army to carry out “major exercise” somewhere in Dublin today

Carl Kinsella

Ireland’s Defence Forces yesterday issued a Public Information Notice that a major exercise would take place on Wednesday December 6.

The note further stated that “The exercise will involve over 500 Defence Forces personnel, including the elite Army Ranger Wing, exercising with our colleagues in An Garda Síochána.”

However, due to the nature of the exercise, further details such as location or timing of the exercise have not been made available to the public.

The drill is set to involve some pretty intense elements of the military, and the public can expect to see “military vehicles, armoured vehicles, helicopters and armed personnel” somewhere in Dublin over the course of the exercise.

The note ends “We hope to keep any disruption to a minimum; however, this exercise is necessary to ensure that the Defence Forces are fully prepared when called upon.”
