At least 80 religious pilgrims killed by ISIS in Baghdad truck attack

JOE

Terrible news.

The death toll for a truck bombing that took place near Baghdad on Thursday night has risen to over 80. ISIS have claimed responsibility for the attack.

The bombing appears to have targeted Iranian pilgrims who were celebrating the religious event, Arbaeen. Arbaeen is one of the largest religious events throughout the world.

This show of force comes as ISIS seem to be losing the battle for Mosul, their strongest foothold in Iraq.

There is a concern that the loss of Mosul could lead to ISIS lashing out and attacking the rest of the world.

Conversely, a defeat for the militant group in Mosul could mean the end of ISIS’ control of territory in Iraq.

The attack was the deadliest by ISIS since a massive car bomb killed around 300 people in Baghdad in July.
