ATM scam

Quite a haul.

Two men have been arrested following the search of a house in Meath.

Gardaí from the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau assisted by Gardaí from Navan carried out a search of a house on the Slane Road in Navan on Monday morning where they seized products used to carry out ATM scams.

Gardaí seized equipment for ATM skimming including a fake ATM front, hard drives, receiving devices, soldering equipment, laptops, about 500 blank cards to be used for storing data copied at ATMs, sat navs, pin hold cameras, skimming devices and various ATM skimming paraphernalia.

The fake ATM front (pictured below) is placed over the front of a regular ATM. When a person then inserts their card, it skims the data from the card and the person’s pin is captured using a concealed camera.

Gardaí said they themselves added the numbers to the keypad for illustrative purposes

The two men are both Romanian nationals in their late 40s and late 20s, and were arrested at the scene.

Both men are currently detained at Navan Garda Station pursuant to Section 50 of Criminal Justice Act, 2007.

Investigations and searches ongoing.
