Man arrested following attempted bank robbery in Dublin

The man was armed with a suspected firearm.

A man is due to appear in court on Thursday morning (11 February) in connection with an attempted bank robbery in Dublin just before Christmas in 2019.

The man, in his 40s, is to appear at Dublin District Court in connection with the attempted armed robbery, which occurred at a financial institution on Baggot Street Lower in Dublin on 23 December 2019.

Shortly before 3pm on the date in question, a lone male entered the bank armed with a suspected firearm.

The man threatened staff and demanded cash before leaving the scene empty handed.

An imitation firearm was recovered from the scene, along with clothing discarded by the suspect at a nearby location.

Following a lengthy investigation, including media appeals and the use of DNA analysis, a suspect was identified.

On Wednesday 10 February 2021, a man in his 40s was arrested in connection with the incident in the Dublin 8 area.

He was taken to Pearse Street Garda Station and detained for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 prior to his court appearance this morning.
