Bank of Ireland has issued an apology to customers affected by a “technical processing issue” which resulted in money going missing from their accounts.

On Wednesday, several customers posted messages to the @talktoBOI account on Twitter to report issues with wages, cash transactions and bill payments that had surfaced on their accounts.

“Hi, my friend transferred money to my account yesterday, I could see it yesterday but it disappeared today and my balance went down as well! Can you help me understand what’s going on? Thanks!” wrote one customer.

“Just got hold of someone, they tell me loads of customers had money that went into their account yesterday just disappear. Praying it’s resolved soon as there’s nothing in my account now,” another customer posted.

In a statement to the Irish Times, a Bank of Ireland spokesperson said that a “technical processing issue” was to blame for the faults reported by customers and said that the issue was now resolved.

“A process issue resulted in some customers not seeing all transactions reflected in real-time in their accounts. This issue has now been resolved, however, we sincerely apologise to customers for the inconvenience.”
