Valid ID and women will be checked at the door.

A Mayo bargain store will celebrate the opening of a new store in Swinford by giving free pints away “to men only”.

The Irish retailer, Mr. Price, will be handing out beer tickets to male customers after 5pm on Thursday, 8 February, tickets which they can use to get a free pint in Campbell’s pub on Main Street, Swinford.

“Let herself grab a bargain while you grab a free pint,” said Laura Blighe, the Mr. Price marketing manager in a press release.

“Any men in with the missus on Thursday evening left holding the bags can have a pint on us. We’re open late until 10pm so come toast our newest store while the other half spends the hard-earned cash.”

Ms. Blighe went on to add that male customers must be over the age of 18 and “have the missus in tow to be eligible”.

The Swinford branch will be the 41st Mr. Price store opened in Ireland and when asked by JOE if the promotion was not, well… sexist, Blighe responded: “Not at all. Sure we’re offering the men a free pint while the women are in shopping. I’m a woman, sure. I wrote this. It’s all very jovial. That’s the brand we are.”

Ms. Blighe went on to add: “We could have something else for women on the sideline at a later stage. For now, we’re sticking with the pints for men.”
