The judge categorised the actor as “a sexually violent predator”.

Comedian and actor Bill Cosby has been sentenced to three to 10 years in a state prison for sexual assault.

As part of his sentencing, 81-year-old Cosby must undergo counselling for life, as well as be listed on the sex offender registry.

Judge Steven O’Neill described Cosby as a “sexually violent predator”, despite the defence’s arguments that Cosby’s age and blindness should be taken into consideration.

Due to this ruling, Cosby must now register with state police and inform any community he lives in that he is on the sexual offenders list.

Additionally, neighbours, childcare centres and schools will have be notified of his whereabouts.

CNN News report that Judge O’Neill stated ” This was a serious crime. Mr. Cosby, this has all circled back to you. The day has come, the time has come.”

Prosecutors on the case have asked the judge on Monday to sentence Cosby to five to 10 years in state prison for the 2004 assault, saying he had shown “no remorse” for his actions.

However, Cosby’s defense attorney, Joseph P. Green, asked for a sentence of house arrest, citing Cosby’s advanced age and blindness.
