Body of young boy (5) recovered from Lough Mask in Mayo

Tragic news.

Gardaí have confirmed that the body of a five-year-old boy has been recovered from Lough Mask in Mayo.

A search operation involving Gardaí, Coast Guard, Civil Defence, Lough Mask Water Rescue and local divers was stood down after the body was recovered on Tuesday morning.

The alarm was raised at approximately 6.30pm on Monday (1 June), when an inflatable boat was spotted in the water.

A search operation was launched for the boy, who was last seen on the side of the lake closest to the village of Tourmakeady.

It is believed that the boy, who is from the area, fell from the dinghy, which may have drifted from the shoreline.
