Body of an Irish woman in her late 20s found on a beach in India

The body of a woman, confirmed by the Department of Foreign Affairs to be Irish, has been found on a beach in India.

The victim, who was in her late 20s, was found in Canacona, a coastal resort in Goa.

According to reports, she had injuries to her head and face and was severely beaten.

It is thought she was on holiday in the district with a friend and had arrived on Sunday. A murder investigation has been launched, with one person arrested in connection with the woman’s death.

The Department of Foreign Affairs issued a statement to The Irish Times:

“Ireland’s Embassy in New Delhi is in contact with Indian authorities in relation to reports of an incident involving an Irish citizen,” it said in a statement to The Irish Times.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade stands ready to provide consular assistance.”
