The transatlantic flight was heading towards Boston at the time.

British Airways flight BA-0213 was departing from London, with 239 passengers on board, when it was forced to divert. As reported by Patrick Flynn for the Irish Examiner, the Boeing 777-200 jet was approximately an hour into its journey when the crew alerted air traffic controllers to the problem. They reported that smoke had been detected on board, and requested that the flight be diverted to Shannon. The aircraft landed safely at Shannon at 1.37pm and was met by fire crews and emergency services. When no clear sign of a fire was detected, the aircraft was then moved on to the terminal building, where passengers disembarked. Engineers investigated the issue, and the airline reported that the flight was diverted due to a minor technical issue. According to the British Airways website, an aircraft will bring passengers from Shannon to Boston, set to depart at 8pm.
