No bounce by the looks of things, Boris.

In the first electoral test in his new role as Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has suffered defeat as the Liberal Democrats won the Brecon and Radnorshire by-election.

Welsh Liberal Democrat leader Jane Dodds beat incumbent Conservative Chris Davies to the seat by over a thousand votes.

The result leaves the Conservative party with a majority of just one in parliament, this is including the ten seats of support that Johnson receives from the DUP.

Labour also suffered in the election as their share of the vote fell to 12.4% in fourth place, with The Brexit Party overtaking them in the voting. They were a very distant third and fourth behind the Liberal Democrat winner.

Neither of the other anti-Brexit parties, Plaid Cymru and the Greens, fielded candidates in the by-election in order not to split the pro-EU vote.

Davies initially stepped down a petition from voters after he pleaded guilty in March to submitting two false expenses invoices for nine photographs costing £700 to decorate his new office.

He decided to run for the seat again despite 19% of the electorate petitioning for his recall.
