Bus Eireann announced that it would be implementing €12 million worth of pay cuts from Monday 6 March.

In a statement released this afternoon, the company have said: “Due to the perilous state of the Company’s finances and the failure to reach agreement with unions at the Workplace Relations Committee (WRC) last week, the Board of Bus Éireann considered the matter in detail at its meeting today and approved proposals for immediate cost savings to be implemented from Monday, March 6th.

These measures are vital to ensure that the Company remains solvent, and can continue to trade as a going concern. The Company must deal with its challenges directly, and the Board have a duty to ensure Bus Éireann is financially sustainable and therefore must take the necessary steps to secure this. Further dialogue aimed at urgently resolving these challenges would be welcome.”

They also announced the closure of three routes – Dublin Clonmel route on 12 March, Dublin Westport on 16 April and the Dublin Derry route on 28 May – and there would also be a reduction in services on the Dublin Limerick and Dublin Galway routes from 12 March.

In response, the NBRU issued a letter to all of the staff working in Bus Eireann that from Monday 6 March, there would be an indefinite all-out strike.
