It’s like the blue passports all over again…
Just last week, the media reported that the United Kingdom would need to start stockpiling food and medicine in the event of a no-deal Brexit come March.
This week, British Chancellor of the Exchequer Phillip Hammond announced that the UK would be releasing a commemorative 50p coin in order to celebrate Brexit.
The announcement will be made as part of the UK’s 2019 Budget, which is taking place today (30 October).
Photos of the coin reveal that it features the Queen’s head, as well as the date “29 March 2019” — which is the date by which the UK must officially exit the European Union.
The coin will also be engraved on the back, with the phrase “Friendship with all nations”.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, commentators on social media have been going to town on the prospect.
I’m sure the Brexity quality of the 50p coin will be of great comfort when it’s not even worth enough to buy a solitary fucking Freddo bar pic.twitter.com/Cc1m5veQRw
