On Tuesday afternoon, Minister for Finance Paschal Donohue announced the details of Budget 2020 in Dáil Éireann.

Not surprisingly, Brexit proved a major talking point, with Donohue revealing that €1.2 billion has been allocated to tackle a no-deal scenario should it come about.

A €6-per-tonne increase in carbon tax – which had dominated the news agenda in the lead-up to the budget this week – was also a major talking point, with motorists set to be hit with an increase of approximately two cents per litre in the price of petrol and diesel from Wednesday (9 October) onwards.

As is the case every year, meanwhile, the impact on the price of cigarettes and alcohol generated plenty of interest.

You can find a detailed breakdown of the budget right here.

But how will Budget 2020 affect your pocket?

Thanks to the folks at Taxback.com, you can find out exactly that using their handy calculator below; all you have to do is fill in a few details about your age, marital status, annual pay, medical card and your children (if you have any).

If you’re married, meanwhile, there’s an option to provide some details about your spouse to see how you will be affected as a couple.

Once you’ve done that – and it literally takes a few seconds – the calculator will let you know your monthly and annual take home pay, as well as the difference Budget 2020 will make to your pocket.

If the Budget proves to be a disappointment on a personal level, you can check if you’re eligible for a tax refund and apply for it here; the average Irish PAYE tax refund a Taxback.com customer receives is €1,076.
