The coalition government are set to announce Budget 2024 on Tuesday, (October 10). The package could be worth up to €10billion. According to reports, the main items in the budget will concern tax changes, welfare payments, housing, childcare, and a series of measures to help with the cost of living crisis.

Ahead of the budget being published, a series of leaks and reports have revealed many of the expected main points from the package.
According to The Irish Independent, some of the main
- The rent tax credit could increase from €500 to €800.
- The minimum wage could increase by €1.40 to €12.70.
- There will be a double Child Benefit payment will be paid to all parents before Christmas.
- There will be a discount of between €300 and €400 for households to help with electricity bills between now and next spring.
- College grants will increase by over €300 next year to help students.
- There will be mortgage relief worth over €1,000 to homeowners.
- Around 50,000 students are set for a significant Budget boost with college grants in line to increase by more than €300 next year.
- Mortgage interest relief worth more than €1,000 to homeowners.
The government and authorities are preparing for any potential major protests this year, according to reports, and several extra precautions are being put in place for Budget Day 2024.
Traditionally, peaceful protests take place outside Leinster House on the day of the budget each year. However, security is set to ramp up this year in reaction to last month’s demonstrations which blockaded Oireachtas staff and journalists inside the building,
Garda strikes have added extra pressure in the lead-up to Budget Day.
