Football. Live football. Real, genuine, actual football is back this weekend.

It has been approximately 43 years since we watched a live game of football on our television screens. At least it feels that way at this stage.

But the wait is finally over, as BT Sport have announced that they will be showing every game from the Bundesliga this weekend.

The German football league has been given the all clear to return by the government, and it will be doing so from 2pm this Saturday (16 May).

This weekend will see stars such as Sancho, Coutinho, Lewandoski, Havertz and many more take to the field, with a total of nine matches being played.

Roland Woeller, a politician in Germany, has urged fans not to treat this as an excuse to meet together.

He said: “Fans must not use matches behind closed doors as an excuse to gather in front of the stadiums or elsewhere.

“This could lead to matches being stopped.”

All shops have been allowed to reopen in Germany, while it is also expected that pupils will soon return to school.

Germany has the seventh-highest number of confirmed cases in the world, with the latest Robert Koch Institute (RKI) data on Sunday showing the reported infected tally at 169,218.

The RKI is continuously monitoring the Covid-19 situation in Germany.
