Bus Éireann has announced that all services will be suspended nationwide on Monday October 16 between 5am and 2pm.

Ireland is braced for what is expected to be its worst storm in many decades as Hurricane Ophelia approaches, forcing much of the country to shut down.

The Red level wind warning, which originally applied to eight counties, was extended to include the entire island on Sunday evening. Following this news, schools and colleges were ordered to close on Monday. The HSE, Dublin Airport and many workplaces have also made changes to their schedules.

In a statement on Sunday night, Bus Éireann announced the decision. They also confirmed that the decision will be reviewed at some point tomorrow morning before a decision is made on possible changes throughout the rest of the day.

The Gardaí have also advised motorists to avoid non-essential journeys, and for nobody to travel by bicycle.
