Investigation underway after double-decker bus hijacked at gunpoint and set on fire in Down

The bus driver was unharmed but is badly shaken.

PSNI are appealing for information following the armed hijacking of a bus in Down on Monday morning (1 November).

The incident occured in the Abbot Drive area of Newtownards at approximately 6.30am.

Two masked and armed men boarded the bus and poured fuel over the vehicle before setting it ablaze.

Anyone who may have witnessed the event or has any information is encouraged to contact the PSNI, using reference number of 444 of 01/11/21, or by submitting a report via their online form.
