If you’re planning on driving into work this morning then you’d want to leave in plenty of time as commuters in the capital will not be allowed to use bus lanes.
The decision to close bus lanes to commuters travelling in private cars is sure to cause extra-unneeded congestion, but it’s a decision that “could change in the future” according to a Dublin Bus spokesperson.
There’s no word yet as to when the strike might finally come to an end. According to the Dublin Bus website: “Dublin Bus wishes to advise customers that due to industrial action, services are not operating today Tuesday 6th August until further notice.”
Many are now calling for Transport minister Leo Varadkar to step in, but he says both sides should go to the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) when they are ready to make a deal and that the days when minsters would throw money at these problems have long gone.
“It was fine for Fianna Fail ministers to throw money at problems in the past but those days are gone.
“In the old days, ministers would solve industrial relations disputes by throwing taxpayers’ money at them. That era is over. The taxpayer has no more money to give Dublin Bus.”
