Cavan bar convicted of selling fake vodka; nine Irish food premises ordered to close

Fancy heading to any of these?

Fancy heading to any of these?

JOE isn’t too picky when it comes to our choice of drink on a night out or the location for our post-pub food but we do insist that what we’re drinking is the real thing and that our grub is up to a decent standard.

It seems that Hughie’s Bar in Kingscourt, Cavan have made a big boo-boo when it comes to serving their patrons because they’ve been found guilty of selling counterfeit Smirnoff Red label vodka.

Vodka connoisseurs will know that this brand isn’t as strong but it’s probably the reason why there was a few more sober heads around Cavan on a Saturday morning over the last month.

The owner was also found guilty of making a false statement to the investigating officer. Reports are unconfirmed if the owner is indeed Moe Szyslak from The Simpsons.

Truth be told, we think that only one man would instantly know the difference between the brands within a split second of tasting.

Its not been a great day for all you lovers of cuisine also because nine Irish restaurants, take-aways and eateries were also temporarily closed due to food safety breaches in January, after the FSAI inspection.

Have you eaten in any of these restaurants/shops/cafes?

We really don’t want to know the gory details as to why they’re all closed but our minds instantly turn to this.
