“My health has changed dramatically.”
Charlie Bird has given an update on his condition ahead of Christmas as the former RTÉ presenter admits his health has “changed dramatically”.
The 74-year-old posted an update on his X/Twitter account on Tuesday, December 12, saying that he didn’t think he would make it to this Christmas.
“This time last year I said I didn’t think I would see this Christmas,” Bird wrote.
“Thankfully I am still around and that is because of the support and kindness I have received from people all around the country. Yes my health has changed dramatically. I am wheelchair dependent now and tube fed.”

Charlie Bird gives major health update ahead of Christmas
The former broadcaster credited his survival to “the support and kindness I have received from people all around the country.”
In his post, Bird also said that he is now wheelchair dependent and requires to be fed through a tube, as his Motor Neurone Disease progresses.
Last month, Bird made an emotional appeal to the public to continue helping his wife and dog “extend the hand of friendship” after he passes.
The request was directly aimed at everyone who supports the Climb With Charlie initiative to help “people in dark places” and charities supported by the former RTÉ journalist.
