Charlie Manson has reportedly been rushed to hospital from prison

Charlie Manson has been taken to a hospital in California, reports state.

The 82-year-old cult leader’s condition has not been revealed by state prison officials, who have only confirmed that the convicted murderer and cult leader remains alive.

Manson has reportedly been brought to a hospital in Bakersfield, roughly 60 miles from the prison in Corcoran where he has been incarcerated for the 1969 murders of the pregnant actress Sharon Tate and six other people.

California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokeswoman Terry Thornton has refused to confirm whether Manson has been moved to hospital, citing safety protocols.

She said that she is unable to discuss an inmate’s medical situation.

Manson has made several attempts at getting parole, his last effort – his 12th – failing in 2012.

While Corcoran is equipped with medical facilities, inmates are sent to dedicated hospitals to deal with more serious issues.

“In general, inmates are sent to outside hospitals if they need surgical services, emergency care, or diagnostic services of an acute nature,” said Joyce Hayhoe, who works for the federal receiver in control of prison medical care.

“These services are not provided in state prison facilities.”
