Chelsea fans banned from football for five years over racist chanting

Lengthy bans

Carl Kinsella

Rightly so.

Chelsea fans Joshua Parsons, William Simpson and Richard Barklie have been banned from attending football games at home and abroad for the next five years by a judge this afternoon. A fourth fan, Jordan Munday, was banned for three years.

The judge accused the men of ‘tarnishing the reputation of English football in Europe’.

The incident occurred before Chelsea’s game against Paris Saint-Germain last season, and was roundly condemned by everybody football, including Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

Luckily, the event was captured on video, and the Chelsea fans can be clearly heard chanting ‘We’re racist, we’re racist, we’re racist and that’s the way we like it’ after preventing a Souleymane Sylla, a Parisian black man, from boarding a Paris Metro train.

A five-year ban is a lengthy punishment, but it is hard to imagine that anyone would have argued with a harsher sentence.
