There will be reserved times in Dublin parks for people aged over 70.

Dublin City Council has announced that the two hours between 1.30pm and 3.30pm will be a time reserved for those cocooning to avail of parks across Dublin from tomorrow.

From Wednesday 6 May onwards, parks during this time will be reserved for the over-70s and those who have been cocooning because of serious medical conditions.

Other park users are being asked to consider using parks at other times so that those cocooning can have as much space and confidence in physical distancing as possible.

As of today (5 May), according to the roadmap for easing Covid-19 restrictions published by the government on Friday, people over the age of 70 are allowed to leave the house and exercise, though they are being strictly advised not to come in contact with anyone else.

Changes implemented on Tuesday also means that people can now travel within 5km of their homes, instead of 2km.

The Chief Executive of South Dublin County Council, Daniel McLoughlin, said: “We are asking all other citizens to please take on board the request to leave this two-hour period for those who have been cocooning and to use the park at other times.

“It is extremely important that they can enjoy our parks and exercise in safety.”
