Cork J1 student in critical condition following attack in San Diego (Report)

The 21-year old is believed to have been brutally beaten in the early hours of last Friday.

A J1 student in Cork is reported to be fighting for his life following a brutal attack in San Diego in the early hours of last Friday morning.

According to The Irish Sun, Evan White, from Farran in Cork, was out celebrating his 21st birthday with friends last Thursday night when the attack occurred; San Diego police officials told the paper that he was unconscious when he was discovered in an alley in the early hours of Friday morning.

White was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital in San Diego, where he remains in a critical condition. He is believed to have broken a number of bones in his face and his family have travelled to San Diego to be by his side.

Speaking to The Irish Sun, a source said: “The student was found by police in an alleyway in Pacific Beach.

“He was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital in San Diego where he is in an induced coma.

“What happened was is truly awful. He was left for dead.”

The Pacific Beach area, where the attack occurred, is very popular with J1 students in San Diego, one of the most popular US cities with Irish J1 students.

Speaking to JOE, the Department of Foreign Affairs said that they were aware an incident had occurred and that they are providing consular assistance.
