Seven people in Northern Ireland have died in connection with Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

621 people diagnosed with coronavirus in the UK have died in the past 24 hours.

According to figures released on Sunday (5 April), a total of 4,934 people have now died after contracting Covid-19 in the UK after the latest increase.

This includes seven people from Northern Ireland, and 91 new confirmed cases in the north.

63 people in Northern Ireland have died in connection with Covid-19.

The Department of Health in Britain also said that, as of Sunday morning, a total of 195,524 people have been tested for coronavirus, of which 47,806 tested positive.

This comes on the same day that Scottish medical chief Catherine Calderwood apologised for breaking her own social distancing advice by going to her holiday home during Britain’s lockdown twice.

She said: “As well as this weekend, it’s important to be clear, that I also was there last weekend with my husband. I did not follow the advice I am giving to others.

“I’m truly sorry for that.”

An update on the coronavirus situation in the Republic of Ireland is expected on Sunday evening.
