Gardaí have advised the public not to support the sale of counterfeit goods.

Gardaí have seized an estimated €18,000 worth of suspected counterfeit goods following a search at a house in Mountain View in Carrick-on-Suir, Tipperary.

The search was carried out on Thursday (12 December).

At approximately 6pm, detectives from the Clonmel district executed a search warrant at the house in Mountain View.

During the course of this investigation, Gardaí seized suspected counterfeit footwear, clothing, handbags and cosmetics to the value of approximately €18,000.

The items are labelled as Nike, Adidas, Ted Baker, North Face and Hugo Boss.

No arrests have been made in connection with the seizure, though Gardaí note that they are following a definite line of enquiry.

Gardaí have urged the public to avoid purchasing counterfeit goods for a variety of reasons.

“If you purchase counterfeit goods, you are not only buying sub-standard products, there is also a potential health and safety risk i.e are they flame retardant?” notes a statement.

“If you buy counterfeit goods you may also be playing a part in the funding of organised crime groups who operate throughout the country.

“Prosecutions for suspected counterfeit goods are under Section 92 of the Trademarks Act 1996.”
