43 new Covid-19 deaths confirmed in Ireland, 724 new cases

This is the highest daily death toll in Ireland so far.

43 people diagnosed with Covid-19 in Ireland have died in the past 24 hours, representing the highest daily increase in deaths thus far.

724 additional cases have been confirmed, with 629 new cases from labs in Ireland, and 95 from tests that had been sent to Germany.

Ireland’s death toll now stands at 486, with a total number of 13,271 confirmed cases.

Of the 43 people who have died, 34 were in the east of the country. Four were in the west, and five were in the south.

The median age of those who died in the past 24 hours is 84.

It was announced that of the deaths so far, 61% have been in a hospital environment, with ages ranging from 23 to 105 years of age

As of Tuesday night, 3,090 cases (25%) of coronavirus had been confirmed among healthcare workers.

Speaking on Thursday evening, Chief Medical Officer Doctor Tony Holohan said that “all of our efforts now need to be on extinguishing COVID-19 in our community residential settings, including nursing homes.”

As well as this, a further 18 people in the north have died in connection with Covid-19, bringing the number of deaths on the island of Ireland to 61 in the past 24 hours.
