A broken escalator left a number of football fans fearing for their safety.
CSKA Moscow fans were left fearing for their safety tonight as a an escalator on the Rome metro network malfunctioned, causing it to move at dangerously high speeds.
Travelling to the Stadio Olympico for CSKA’s group stage match against AS Roma, fans were left piled on top of one another, as shown by videos that have surfaced on social media.

The incident occurred at the Repubblica – Teatro dell’Oper station.
Several were left injured after the pile up ahead of the game, with Dmitry Gurin of the Russian embassy claiming that 30 travelling fans were injured, with seven seriously injured following the malfunction.
The malfunction is believed to have been caused by a large group of fans jumping on the escalator with force.
The station was closed immediately and four ambulances were parked at one of the entrances.
Gurin said: “30 people were injured from among the fans of the CSKA football club in connection with the accident on the escalator of Rome’s metro station.”
